Thanksgiving Break Art

I made this piece first in my sketchbook. I was trying different styles of typography and various word art with my favorite band names. When I showed it to Grouplove, one of them thought it looked like it was coming out of an elephant trunk. Which gave me another idea.

Then I took that idea and made this. Realizing I had this elephant, I knew I had to then make something for the band Cage The Elephant, because well... Elephants.

This became the final product. It's kind of my own version of CD album art for Cage The Elephant.

Silk Painting

I would give my self a AP score of  a 4 for these reasons:
4.A The work shows a good investigation of a variety of 2-D design principles. I explored the design principals of emphasis, balance, and movement.
·       4.B The work demonstrates some originality, some innovative thinking, and purposeful manipulation of the elements and principles of 2-D design. I was inspired by the artist Heather Brown, and I used her style, but in my own way.
·        4.F The work demonstrates good technical competence and use of materials and media; technical aspects and articulation of ideas do not always work together. I executed my technical skill by keeping all the ink within the tight spaces between the resist.

Weekly Challenge 6

For my weekly challenge I went down to the pond by my house and photographed the ducks that live there. This was my favorite image from the shoot, and I turned it black and white and messed with the levels to really enhance the shadows and ripples in the water.

Update on Concentration

The theme for my summer concentration was changes in elevation shown through climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. It starts at sea level in Moshi, Tanzania and then goes to the rainforest, moorelands, the summit and back down to the rainforest on the way down the mountain. Each picture captures the views I saw while climbing one of the world’s seven summits.

Weekly Challenge 5

For this weeks weekly challenge 5 we were working in Ai and I was inspired by this pillow I saw at this small store in Louisville which were these triangle mountains and I decided to take it further and make it into the Colorado flag too.

Weekly Challenge 4

I chose this water color painting that I did sophomore year in art 10 to present now again because I really like it and it was made for surrealism and that is one of my favorite styles of paintings.

Weekly Challenge 3

For my third weekly challenge I changed the media of a painting I did of a tree and a meadow, I changed them to a dark and stormy version inspired by Halloween and then one that looks like glitter glue on  black construction paper.

Digital Art 2 Favorites

Here is a collection of some of my favorite pieces from Digital Art 2 from last year:

Mini Concentration on plastic pollution in oceans and rivers

Framing

Randomidity: Snakes, Tattoos, and Hair

Panorama

Product Design logo

Product Design: Wet suit 1

Ephemeral Art

Design Project 1

This was my first Design project as well as my first multimedia project of this school year. I chose to draw a centipede on wood pieces which are on two metal textile pieces. I painted in warm colors to represent the actual colors of a real centipede because i kept the drawing in pencil void of any other colors.

Weekly Challenge 2

My weekly challenge was Fashion Photography, and so I decided to do three different outfits with one model to create unity within my three pictures. I had another friend of mine as the fashion consultant to help me pic out the out fits which were inspired by my closet. I used my snake Milo in the first picture as a prop to create a more dramatic picture, and I think they turned out well for never doing fashion photography before.

Weekly Challenge 1

My weekly challenge was to evoke the color red, without using it! I was inspired by one of my favorite movies, 127 hours and book Between a Rock and a Hard Place, where Aron Ralston gets his right arm trapped under a boulder and is forced to cut it off himself to survive. The red is evoked through the detached arm and the blue blood dripping from the top of the piece and also through the emotions that I felt while reading the book.

September Goals

My goals for this month:
1. I will enter at least one  of the art contests from the blog by the end of the month.
2. I will be shooting my first senior session for a friend on the 14th, so I'm hoping for great lighting and even better weather.
3. To complete two or more of my concentration pieces by the 25th.

Sun Prints

For my Sun prints I struggled a little bit trying to to get the darkest transparency as possible, the printer and I were not collaborating well. In the end I had to complete the project at home with an Inkjet printer which doesn't actually allow the ink to dry and so I had to be a little creative with my transparency. In the end I used some little plastic animals to make the desired shadows.

Summer Mini Concentration

The theme for my summer concentration was changes in elevation shown through climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. It starts at sea level in Moshi, Tanzania and then goes to the rain forestmoorlands, the summit and back down to the rain forest on the way down the mountain. Each picture captures the views I saw while climbing one of the world’s seven summits.

Heather Brown Artist Emulation

This piece is inspired by artist Heather Brown from Southern, California who now lives on Oahu, Hawaii . Her art is mostly made of ocean scenes from around the islands. She paints on canvas both large and small and sells her art online and locally. I made my piece fully on Photoshop and it is a scene inspired by my trip to Maui, Hawaii in 2007.

Symbolic Self Portrait

This is my symbolic self portrait that i made for part of the summer work, I experimented with minimalist movie poster style because its something I would like to get better at this year in art. The main focus is a picture of myself wearing a shirt with a milk snake on it to show that one of my passions is reptiles and I especially love snakes. Then there is my name which I believe represents me well.
